This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT).
The position of Systems Engineer requires expertise in solution development, scripting, analysis, implementation, and operational support of the various communications technologies used within the Division of Information Technology. The Engineer will work collaboratively to provide integration services for systems such as mail relays, Cisco Email Security Appliance (ESA), Listserv, bulk mail and collaboration tools (such as Cisco Spark, Webex and others) with existing systems, such as the phone system and G Suite. Knowledge of email systems is required, as is in-depth knowledge of mail forwards, spam prevention, DMARC and data loss mitigation as well as email related network protocols (SMTP, IMAP, POP, RFC 2822, RFC 5321), UNIX, IRC tools and adeptness with authorization and authentication integrations with AD and LDAP based directory authentication protocols, SAML and CAS.
This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.
Physical Demands: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional information technology experience.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
