POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Executive Director and CEO is a dynamic and strategic leader responsible for advancing the American Society for Engineering Education’s (ASEE) mission to be the premier multidisciplinary society for individuals and organizations committed to engineering and engineering technology education. This role requires combining strategic vision with operational and fiscal expertise. The CEO will collaborate with the ASEE Board's Executive Committee to set organizational goals and ensure their achievement. This position requires proactive leadership, sound financial judgment, and a commitment to diversity and inclusivity. The CEO must inspire and lead a dedicated staff, foster collaboration with the Board, and engage a broad network of stakeholders. The CEO will also oversee resource development through core revenue streams, fundraising, partnerships, and programming to ensure ASEE’s growth and continued value for its members. This position is currently remote with up to 30% travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent ASEE ethically and positively in all interactions.
- Provide visionary leadership for ASEE, ensuring activities align with its mission and values.
- Report directly to the Board of Directors.
- Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, the Finance Committee, and other committees as appropriate.
- Provide accurate, timely, and transparent reports to the Board and its committees.
- Collaborate with the Board to develop strategic goals and ensure they are executed effectively.
- Maintain fiscal stability by establishing and overseeing financial policies and controls.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with ASEE members and stakeholders.
- Lead the Senior Leadership Team to maintain staff morale, accountability, and to ensure effective business operations.
- Recruits, engages, inspires, and champions a diverse, high-performing staff.
- Fosters a culture that encourages staff contributions and valuing transparency and clear communication.
- Oversee ASEE’s functional areas (Membership, Finance, HR, Professional Services, etc.), working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team.
- Engage with volunteers, members, partners, and external organizations to support ASEE’s mission.
- Promote inclusivity, continuous improvement, and member-focused collaboration across ASEE.
- Support diversity and the exchange of ideas throughout the organization.
- Oversee ASEE’s activities in accordance with governance policies.
- Ensure performance evaluations and compensation align with Executive Committee guidelines.
- Foster a culture of mentorship, professional growth, feedback, and accountability.
- Perform other executive duties as assigned by the Board.

Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree in a field relevant to ASEE and its members.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in complex organizations.
- Professional experience in higher education or professional society leadership.
- Proven track record in strategic planning and execution.
- Demonstrated success in resource management.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of engineering education initiatives and key federal stakeholders (e.g., NSF, NAE, DOD).
- Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
- 10 years of leadership experience in complex organizations.
- Teaching or administration experience in higher education.
- Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification.
- Experience in resource development through fundraising, grants, and partnerships.
- Experience in P-12 education, industry, or government.
