The Power System Advisory group has an exciting opportunity for a Power Systems Engineer, in its Power System Advisory (PSA) Department. DNV Energy's PSA team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Power System Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth and evolution of the PSA business in North America. The ideal candidate will be aware of market opportunities where we can differentiate and innovate, and they will manage commercial projects, delivering technical insight and delighting customers with excellent customer service.

This role is based at our DNV office in Dallas (TX), Houston (TX), Medford (MA), Oak Brook (IL), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Austin (TX) presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.
The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within US.
What You'll Do
- Perform power system analyses, including steady state, dynamic, short-circuit and/or transient stability and networking planning
- Perform system wide power flow analysis including steady-state, dynamic stability and short-circuit analysis
- Perform due diligence for M&A projects by reviewing interconnection documents from the data room and identifying the risk associated
- Complete interconnection applications and supporting documentation for projects in various RTOs (CAISO, PJM, NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, SPP) and vertically integrated markets (WECC, SERC etc.)
- Evaluate transmission & interconnection tariffs, costs, timelines, queue, and processes for a variety of markets and provide strategy to our stakeholders
- Actively attend (in person/remote) industry stakeholder meetings and stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of developments and policy changes
- Collaborate with clients and team members on project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Contribute to the team's research and innovation activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team's performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements

About you
What is Required
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience including:
- In-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy
- Proficiency in system studies and network simulation software such as PSS/E, TARA, PSLF and PSCAD
- Direct work experience in transmission and/or distribution planning related analyses in transmission planning and/or resource interconnection
- Experience contributing to model development and performing system studies and analyses
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and collaborate with clients and team members on project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Initiative, self-motivation, and a commitment to meeting deadlines while exceeding client expectations
- Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO markets grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices including resource integration studies, NERC standards and ISO/RTO resource interconnection model requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to rent and drive a car and travel on public conveyances when required
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
What is Preferred
- Graduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with power system analysis software packages including PSS/E, TARA, PSCAD, ASPEN, PSLF, and TSAT
- 1 to 3 years of experience in Power System engineering outside of an academic setting
- Working knowledge of software packages like Python or VBA
- Experience performing one or more of the studies; Power flow studies, Transient Stability studies, Resource planning studies, forward looking analysis, Security constraint economic dispatch (SCED) analysis
