The Sensor Systems Line of Business focuses on sensor and precision targeting systems. The Mission Electronics area exploits state-of-the-art infrared, millimeter-wave, and laser technologies to design and fabricate missile seekers, guided munitions, and target designators. The Infrared Imaging systems area produces uncooled IR sensors and related systems for defense, civil and commercial applications. The area has three primary segments: military ground imaging systems, surveillance sensors/systems, and commercial/industrial subsystems. The Sensor Integration area produces robust, highly integrated, mission-critical equipment for detection, situational awareness, and protection for U.S. and allied military forces and homeland security personnel. Key product areas include mine countermeasures, countermeasure dispensers, laser warning systems, and unattended ground sensors. The Flight systems business area provides military and commercial aircraft modification and upgrades, aircraft operations, flight test, and aerial subscale and full-scale targets.

BAE Systems has a proud heritage of innovation, state of the art engineering and technical excellence.
We can trace our history back to 1560 when the Royal Powder Factory was established at Waltham Abbey in Essex.
Many of those names that we still recognise today, established themselves around the late early 19th and early 20th Centuries including Avro, Bofors, The General Electric Company, Supermarine, Vickers, Tracor and Yarrow Shipbuilders. All took advantage of the giant leaps in engineering innovation that saw the development of the motor car, the submarine, the tank and of course the aeroplane.
Without our forefathers' pioneering spirit, BAE Systems would not be where it is today.
